RIP – Senn Alumnus Richard (Dick) McCaslin

It is with deep and heavy sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Richard (Dick) McCaslin on July14, 2018 at the age of 84. Cherished son of the late Ruth (Sammy) and Albert (Bop) McCaslin. Dick was born in 1933 in Chicago and lived in the area, West Rogers Park, Evanston and Northbrook for most of his life. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Mary Lou (Vash) McCaslin.

They met at Senn High School and fell in love while playing tennis at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. They had three children: Brian (Susan), Tracy Else and Linda (Bob) Sweeny He was very happy and proud of his children and 6 grandchildren Elizabeth, Brian (BJ), Grant, Hayley, Caroline and Andrew and his 2 great- grandchildren, Drew and Kyla.  “Boppy” relished in their many successes and he will be missed greatly. He is also survived by his brother in law, Dale Vash (Fran) and his niece, Kerry and nephew, Will.
Dick was devoted to his family and passionate about his teams. Team McCaslin and family first, then the White Sox, Bears, Arizona Wildcats, ETHS Wildkits, Little League team, Shell Newburger and any and all the teams his kids and grandkids played on. He was an all star athlete playing tennis and basketball during high school and college.
He will be remembered at Senn High School for being the first Chicago Public High School Doubles Team to win the Illinois State Title in 1949 Championships with his friend and partner, Tom Nelson. They held this honor until 2017. He was proud to be an SAE from University of Arizona and loved his fraternity brothers. He was a caring husband, proud father, loving grandfather and loyal friend, a motivational coach, extraordinary athlete and passionate sports fan.  He will be missed dearly!
